Today’s unemployment report was good news. But in a real sense good news is bad news, because this month’s not-too-bad number deflates the sense of urgency.


Over the last 12 months or so, it really has been driven home to me just how much liberals distrust the market. Obviously I know that they believe in increased regulation and government involvement but really the rhetoric over the last year is that the market is never right, can never be trusted, and has to have deep involvement from the government to have any chance to function. I think I was spoiled by the Clinton years in thinking that the left was far more moderate in their views.

I would just note that if we had followed Krugman's pleas earlier this year, we would have nationalized the banks. I wonder if he still thinks that would have been the right course of action.
