Skeeter.. I guess we're going to have to agree to disagree.
I believe that Islamic Militancy will continue to proliferate, if only because they will actively oppose those kinds of social and economic changes required to build viable economies (unless they happen to strike it rich finding some valuable natural resource we're willing to pay them for).
And as they fall further and further behind the "infidels" in their economic progress, the resentment will continue to grow and disenchanted youths, brainwashed in their madrassas, will continue to seek the path of martyrdom by destroying the "infidel".
That's how it works with religious, and especially "luddite" fanatics. They don't know how to build something, other than a religious empire. They only know how to destroy what others have created. Ultimately, their idea of equality will be represented by equal masses of economic rubble and human suffering.
Every "infidel", and especially Americans.. ;0), should watch the following video, recorded in 2008, by a prominent Hamas leader and cleric. Note that his hatred is not just relegated to killing Jews, but demonstrates his ultimate Militant Islamic agenda for the world at large.

His views are the same ones represented by Ayman Zawahiri, Usama Bin Ladin, and Sayyid Qubt, who's writings provide the foundation for much of the current Islamic Militant vision.
And Btw, we didn't spend ANY money on rebuilding Afghanistan after the Soviets left, certainly not $3 Trillion. And now we're paying the price for that indifference.
