dave its taken me some time to comment 'cause family kept me away from the powerbook but rereading your I wanted to point out that you have confirmed a great deal of my argument.

"The Asians have had several week long shutdowns trying better the situation, but it didn't work. They have also taken several production lines off line to reduce capacity, but the DRAM keeps pouring out".... which was my point... there is demand for memory, but only at a ever reducing price. as there is no monopoly in dram prod. if a group of Fabs try OPEC style squeeze they effectively just redirect revenue elsewhere... SO THEIR ONLY CHOICE IS TO KEEP INVESTING IN TECH THAT BRINGS DOWN THEIR COST OR SHUT UP SHOP.
