this is where our views diverge - i'm not convinced that this effort is worth $3 trillion and i'm not convinced that dropping bombs and killing millions of innocent people and many millions of grieving families will end up yielding fewer folks angry at the USA than letting them broadcast.

Killing millions of people?!! Who the hell are you trying to fool??

You want to discuss who's killing millions of people, look at Darfur and how the Muslim rulers of Sudan are seeking to commit genocide there.

And Saddam killed HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of Shi'a Muslims..

And if you think that all we do is drop bombs and carpet bomb, then you need to get out of your armchair and take a trip over to Afghanistan. Because that was NEVER my experience and I witness well over a hundred of kinetic strikes (targeted bombings) and I can attest to the fact that permission to drop was very much contingent on the potential for collateral damage to innocents and their property.

if you don't fight the wars, there will eventually be an attack on america. there may be an attack on america anyway, but you can't prove it.

The hell I can't.. There are plots every day, some made public, but most remain classified, attempting to strike this country.

And it was just the same kind of complacency you're exhibiting that existed prior to 9/11. No one could believe the numerous warning signs, as well as direct warning by foreign intelligence agencies, that the US was the target of a terrorist attack.

We all ignored the declarations and Fatwas by Bin Ladin and Zawahiri. We ignored Bin Ladin's declaration of war against the US in 1996.

All I can say is you need to spend a bit more time reading some of the literature that the Islamo-Fascists subscribe to in order to understand what they have in mind for the world.

What we have to do is continue to support the forces of progress and moderation that do exist in the Muslim world, but who are intimidated by their fundamentalist and militant brethren.

You neutralize (by whatever means necessary) those religious leaders/clerics who involved in the recruitment and brainwashing of Musliim youth, turning them into suicidal martyrs.

We need to, instead, instill hope and expectations of a future that is far better than killing themselves in order to collect 72 virgins.

What we need to do is continue to support a "reformation" within Islam, one that Christianity went through many hundreds of years ago. There is a civil war for the soul of Islam and either the moderates, or the militants, are going to win it.

Pray it's the moderates.
