Wonder if this is happening any other place. I live in a small-medium sized town. We've always enjoyed a lot of benefits from a large business base that's allowed us to have our own police and fire department. But businesses are moving out of California. The company I used to work for had their corporate headquarters here but moved it to Virginia. That was a loss of 500 jobs here. Other large corporations are also leaving.

First the state came in and robbed us of $1 million calling it a loan, which the mayor and city council doubt will ever be paid back. Now they've come in and taken another $8 million, which is going to force us to have to contract with the county to use their fire department services. That potentially means 15-20 minute delay, depending on traffic.

It's a choice of raising the business tax more, further taxing the residents or contracting the fire department.
