One of the problems with being a liar is that nobody believes you when you tell the truth. I hope that Obama really does show backbone in Afghanistan and commits to victory, but he'll have to act like it (not merely talk like it) before reasonable people will believe him
Obviously that author thinks victory in Afghanistan is achievable.
I would like for that author, or Obama, or McChrystal, or Karzai, or anyone who speaks of victory in Afghanistan, to please explain what that victory is going to look like. Then explain how it will be achieved in 18 months.
Then I would like for them to explain how that picture of victory will contribute to the security of the United States.
If our intent is to wipe out the Muslim militant extremist population in Afghanistan and Pakistan, we have a helluva lot more killing to do, so we better get the killing restrictions lifted asap and get on with it.
If victory is going to be something less than that, why not declare it now and go home?
Are we really committing because someone in DC thinks we might get attacked from Afghanistan? Or are we fighting Sharia Law there but ignoring it elsewhere? Or are we doing something else? I would just like to know because I don't get it.
We are going to have 100,000 American soldiers risking their lives to IEDs by traveling to and from villages where their primary job will be to kiss civilian butts for 18 months. Then after an 18 month long application of butt kissing we can declare victory and go home!!! Who dreams up this nonsense?
You know what is really pathetic? It is CIA operatives killing people (including civilians) they don't know, and never saw up close, with drones they control from DC, then heading out for a few cold ones with their buddies in Georgetown to celebrate the day. Meanwhile a few SEALS go into the 5th world to capture an AQ operator, give him a bloody lip and face a court martial.
That is not fighting a war. It is playing games. The lawyers' game pieces are our fighting men and that is an atrocity.
I blame our military weakness and penchant for ridiculous Rules Of Engagement, et al, on the Clinton's. They did more damage to our armed forces than all the enemies we have faced since WWII. The Clintons decimated the ranks and emasculated the leadership. And neither has recovered.
Obama gets his Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo on 10 December. He has described it as a call to action. If Obama continues his outrageous actions against US Citizens that are weakening our freedoms, the committee may award him another Peace Prize next year. Maybe that is the victory he seeks. |
