T. Boone Pickens has modified his plan.

His original plan was based on an idea of NG as being somewhat scarce and expensive. So he wanted to move the NG used to produce electricity into transportation while substituting this NG produced electricity with wind farms.

Two things happened:

1) The huge new amounts of shale NG hanging over the market made NG neither scarce nor expensive.

2) The wind farms needed to replace the NG produced electricity proved to be both uneconomical and unnecessary.

So it is now: "Fortunately, we have a domestic resource that can be used for the production of electricity as well as for taking its place as America's principal transportation fuel."

If they want to call it the Pickens plan, fine with me. But it is now a new and improved Pickens plan.
