he might be using a ghost writer. I've noticed this with other writers - Steven King and John Grisham being two.

James Patterson is another. James Michener used a team of researchers and writers to assemble his books. I saw an interview with Patterson where he explained the relationship he has with the writers he shares credit with.

Some authors make ample use of editors/ghost writers and others do it all themselves. Some get better over the years and others rely on the formula that worked and just repeat it changing the names and places. Some writers are really lazy and depend on editors.
