Yes, who would have guessed that politics from those days would spill into REAL politics.

For the board, the prankster party (Pail & Shovel party) used to spend hours and hours making up all sorts of entertaining and outrageous promises and activities to try and get elected. Just ONE of the promises was to bring the Statue of Liberty to UW Madison. After they got elected, one morning that was sitting on the ice with all the "congressmen" and President out on campus handing out flyers about how they had kept their campaign promise but the cable on the helicopter bringing it in snapped and it fell through the ice.

FWIW, another promise was to reduce tuition... the next fall semester when you registered there these clowns were handing students (what 50K??) this semi-official looking card with a penny glued to the middle explaining the rebate.

Pretty funny. Dont know if any of them actually had time to study. They all had megaphones and were constantly giving speeches on the mall and handing out money to insure votes.

Sort of like real politics now :(
