>>>Palin and Huckabee "owed their appeal more to personality than to substance," and would have been wise to "take their newfound eminence seriously" and start hitting the books. Instead, they chose to "cash in on their celebrity," leaving them no better off when it comes to gaining credibility and/or positioning themselves for national office.

Their popularity has been bolstered much more by attacks on their character than anything they've done personally to 'cash in' on fame. Each is a model of decency, while attacks at that particular character trait martyrs them, especially in the case of Palin who didn't rise from a fundamentalist platform.

Attacking her knowledge of political issues might have gotten the results you were looking for but these attacks on her as a mother, a woman, a wife, a person of faith, a representative of the common folk who became powerful by challenging the ethics of good ole boy politics was a mis-step; one you'll probably never be able to appreciate.
