In other words, when we ship industry to China, we do increase productivity a great deal, and falling gadget prices confirm that trend. Yep, but everyone is too broke or unemployed to buy them, at leqast in the short term, while we re-invent ourselves. This, by the way, like everything, has happened before. Therein lies my thesis: globalization has been a disaster for the US. I think it may well be the root cause of the present problems. The real question, however, is how to avoid or mitigate its harmful effects. Answer that and you'll deserve a Nobel - a real one, not the ersatz Nobels O! and Al GoRythm got.
