I'm still reading. Given the weak character of the public option version in the Senate bill proposed by Reid, this may be, as Krugman and Ezra Klein argue, much better. If it is in fact an expansion of Medicare to the 55 year old crowd, with subsidies possible after 2014; and the public exchanges are as tightly regulated as some think, then we may be headed in the direction of a mixed system, some Germany, Switzerland, and France (tightly regulated non-profit private insurance) with a competing public sector (more like Canada).

Which, while not a single payer system, my preference, is certainly much better than we now have.
