I think a biometric test is quite simple for critical professions. You look at relative changes in reflexes and balance, almost like the Wii Fit program does. If the job requires attention span, then mental agility should be good too.

It appears that the "punishers" are more interested in exacting something from the worker without their consent than finding impairment. And their processes are unscientific and unselective, treating low harm drugs which are easy to test for more harshly than harder, but common drugs that are hard to test for.

I don't think people will feel better that their pilot only crashed the plane because he had a small stroke last night instead of smoking 80 joints. Drug tests don't test impairment or intoxication, they test clearance time and detectability. There is no urine test for LSD that I know of, for instance, but I suspect that organized thought and recollection would be affected. Drug testing is based upon bad science.
