dale, i tend to have an investing and trading position in a stock. the investing portion is ruled completely by fundamentals. the trading portion is ruled by what i think a stock will do shorter term. my first 1/3 may be my core position. my 2nd 1/3 is more likely to be traded and my 3rd 1/3 even more likely to be traded. i always buy cheap stocks, imho. there is usually a pretty tight floor below them. when they drop, all else being equal, i like it. i buy more at a less expensive price. more and more stocks are phased in now. even many itty bitty ones. you don't need to pay the ask anymore. just go 1/16 higher than the bid and your order is filled or becomes the new bid. this saves a lot. waterhouse has a $12 fee for online trading. their service is excellent. i left so i could have access to the instinet and selectnet. i don't think i need that anymore. i may be going back to waterhouse. you can use their phone brokers when you need to.
