The best gauge for that is to understand where most European politicians reside. Even the British Conservative Party leader is to the left of most of our Democratic office holders. Even though RW adherents keep talking about Merkel and Sarkozy being one of them, that is only a relative measure. The actual Merkel and Sarkozy platform is far to the left of our Democratic party Most of our political leaders are to the left of Saudi Arabia but to the right of Europeans. On that scale Krugman is far more centrist liberal than anything else.
