The possibility is far more reasonably anticipated than the nagging leading to bank robbery case.

Seems to me that, at worst, this is like paying your income taxes. When you pass a tax law, it's reasonable to expect that people will pay it. They may cheat a bit and grumble a lot but they pay it. Sure, there are people who for one reason or other challenge the feds on it but they don't end up dead. Not saying it couldn't happen but the person ending up dead would have to have contributed to his death by doing something really stupid. And lots and lots of people never file taxes at all and get away with it. So I disagree that it is reasonably anticipated.

Well I suppose they might not go so far as say Ruby Ridge.

First of all, this would be an administrative nightmare. It simply isn't feasible to make sure that everyone has insurance or pays the fine. Never happen. And it wouldn't be cost effective to try. Then there are the bleeding hearts who will protect those for whom payment is a burden. I think that you are conjuring up more demons than there actually are in this.

I agree with you that a law that forces folks to buy insurance is wrong on principle. But as a practical matter, I'm pretty confident that most people who want to get away without paying up will be able to do so. And that no one will end up dead. think you're letting your aversion on principle compromise your judgment about the practical aspects of it.
