What about it? Gore brings it up because it's a red herring. He doesn't want to consider any alternative explanation other than his black-n-white view of increased CO2 emissions leading to climate change.

Maybe the environment is a lot more complicated than that, and there are literally billions of other variables in play here? Such as the sun itself?

Al Gore just wants to jump to a conclusion so that he can be the lead in drastic and unnecessary regulations. He doesn't want to defend his conclusions because that would distract too much from his planet-saving fantasies.
