I got my satisfaction by taking the portable DVD drive back to Costco and turned in the entire system. Then I turned around and bought a non-bundled Netbook that was identical to the first, without the DVD drive. I went to another store and got a portable DVD drive which works fine. The customer service reps in China were nice enough, but I couldn't understand what they were saying well enough to fix the problem.
