There is a thing called thinking, which doesn't require professional qualifications or membership in cartels. Thinking is available to anyone.
In almost any field and any speciality, a totally lay person with a wide field of knowledge and high mental acuity can get up to speed in weeks if not days with the most expert in the field.
The reason for that is that they don't have to go through years of graft learning an enormous range of related but irrelevant information. Nor do they have to do the hard work of figuring things out, testing, writing papers and having plenty of work ditched as low value or plain wrong. They just get the latest good stuff and hey presto, they are right up there with the best of the experts.
That's why young people constantly usurp the enormous knowledge and experience of the sage old hands in any field. The youngsters arrive fresh to the scene and cut to the chase.
