That is a truly exceptional article.

And what it says, in so many words, is "these guys don't know WTF they're doing". Not a clue. There IS no systematic approach to solving this problem.

They know the numbers, I'm certain. How much we spend here and there, sure. But what's missing is a serious understanding of how the health care system works, and just as importantly, how health care finance works. I don't think they have any idea what all is involved.

Nowhere was it more apparent than when Obama suggested that a surgeon might prefer an amputation to get the "$30,000, $40,000 or $50,000" in "immediate" reimbursement. While one could charge this off as just an error in speaking, it actually spoke volumes about just how little understand the president has of the way the system works. If he understood the issue, this thought would never have occurred to him for a microsecond.

These guys are flying by the seat of their pants on 1/6 of the United States economy. Absolutely amazing.
