Painting opposition as racism is what really distorts the understanding of the opposition. The charge deserves to be ridiculed, and doing so, to the extent its effective, gives a more accurate picture of what's really going on. No doubt. They need cover from the charge of racism We're operating off of two lexicons. In mine you need "cover" when you're hiding something. Not being racist is not something one hides. "3 a : something that conceals or obscures <under cover of darkness> b : a masking device : pretext <the project was a cover for intelligence operations>" I understand that "cover" can also mean protection of the innocent from attack, as in "take cover," which is apparently your frame.
