There is an immediate need for an information resource.

The EPRI Y2K Embedded Systems workshop of
September 9/10, 1997 was attended by 165
people representing over fifty domestic
utilities, three international utilities,
the NRC and fifteen companies from other
industries. Utility representatives were
unanimous in their concern over the
embedded systems portion of the Y2K
problem and in the need for an
industry-wide effort to address the
diverse problems which are anticipated. In
particular, it was agreed that:

* the industry effort should be
non-competitive and collaborative
with the whole-hearted cooperation
and participation of our industry and
others, our suppliers and our
customers;

* time is critical given that the first
identified failure date for some
systems is 1/1/99;

* there is an immediate need for an
information resource pool to allow
utility staff to focus on problem
solving rather than every member
company individually contacting
vendors and other users of common
systems to obtain relevant
information.
