Sector,

I'm not suggesting a hostile takeover. I'm of the belief that ASND management has been seeking a strategic partner to take it over since September. I cannot give you mgmts reasoning for this. But I can guess. ASND is running heavy into CSCO, NT and NN and will be running more and more into LU. Meanwhile, the big telcos are getting more and more into data. ASND has excellent products, but it does not have the penetration and muscle of these other entities. A comination allows ASND to leverage its products with the muscle of another bigger entity. Whatever the merits of such a combination, ASND will not agree to be taken over if the price is not right vis-a-vis current market cap.

What other moves could ASND make? It has hired David Masunis, whose top credential is acquisitions, so ASND could be looking at growing through acquisition in its own right. I've not focused on potential targets for ASND, though many doubtless exist.

Furthermore, there is no reason to believe that ASND could not acquire while being acquired.
