well, i'd love to replace it with a real bar. but real bars no longer exist in the usa. all kinds of rules, no smoking signs, all sorts of silli-ness. it's ludicrous for example to ban smoking in a place dedicated to serving poison. it's like a william soroyan play becoming real, and everyone says, "no foundation, all the way, down the line." and they just put up with it. ennui imposed from some far off distant force and power into some stupid little dimly lit place full of bottles, ice and barstools.

maybe i'll get out and about more. bars in europe and asia still invite tradition.
