It isn't that it's so crass (after all, the interviewer asked), it's that it's an obvious trap that experienced politicians know to avoid. I might have expected Sarah Palin to walk into the trap, but not Barack Obama. Yesterday I saw three separate pundits react exactly the same way: "I can't believe he was so dumb as to give himself a grade! The correct answer to this question always is: "This is a very difficult job and I have great respect for everybody who has sat in this chair. I will leave the grading to the American people, whose job it is."
