Saddam was our boy. We gave him the green light to invade Kuwait. We imposed sanctions on Iraq for 11 years.

Sarman.. that "a dog that doesn't hunt" and you know it.

If we'd given him the "green light" to attack Kuwait, do you think we'd have committed 500k soldiers to retake the place?

Saddam made a deliberate choice to invade Kuwait. It doesn't matter whether he perceived a lack of resolve by the US to resist such an invasion.

And even if you assert that we "tricked" Saddam into attacking, it was STILL HIS DECISION to invade Kuwait. We didn't "force him".

Knocking him off the throne would have taken a team of special opps, say, 1 year planning and 1 day to execute. No excuse for the invasion.

Oh.. so now you're a military genius?

We had the chance to have Saddam killed back in 1998. In fact, the Clinton administration PREVENTED our CIA guy in Iraq from actually coordinating with Iraqi Generals to kill Saddam. Seems we have some kind of law against assassination and they actually recalled that agent, investigated him, and destroyed his career.

The stick has been use many times uselessly, thus it lost its effectiveness.

Man.. you're so full of sh*t it's coming out of your mouth.

The stick NEVER loses it's effectiveness. It depends upon where you're striking.

That said, I prefer diplomacy.. But I'm not going to back down on when it comes to fundamental principles and the security of our nation and allies.
