Rail is dependent on fossil fuels and the railroad Buffet is buying makes most of its money hauling coal. If fossil fuels are over, Buffet must be an idiot. Or maybe he's not.

Wrong! Rail is not dependent of fossil fuels.

The majority of rail transport in western Europe is powered by electricity. It's much more efficient than engines powered by expensive diesel fuel and those costs will just get cheaper on a relative basis as fossil fuel prices rise.

In the long run virtually all rail transport will become electrified because of efficiency.
