Two of the best factors for choosing Nextel Communications as your wireless provider are dispatching capabilities and no roaming charges. The limiting factor is that Nextel is more attractive to business that travel out of their local area and that need dispatch. Case in hand:
I was, and still am, so excited about Nextel's recent advertising campaign in California, 20% off, that I investigated buying the 5 phones needed to qualify for discount. I am not happy with Pac Bell as a cellular provider. After contacting Nextel, I realized that my secretary doesn't need a phone, my kid won't carry the phone on his belt, my wife doesn't have time to even listen.......I guess I stay with Pac Bell. I really don't need dispatch and the cellular link covers most of the country.
Whats my Point?
Nextel has a special nitch which limits your population statistics.
Discount your projected stock estimate by the reduction in possible sales due to the nitch factor + McCaws personal life being washed in the press + the remote possibility that he wife may dilute the market with stock + sat communication as a distant threat=
= adjusted projection for Nextel stock to be $ 90.00 (or less) at company maturity. It won't hit your prior estimate of $ 35.00 this year, to much recent damage has been done.
I like Nextel as a company, I am trying to find a way to justify the purchase and be part of the system. I am also very angry at myself for not doing my homework before investing. I am playing with currently needed money, not 401K or pension plan money. I have to think short term.
