Jay,

I happen to work for Lexmark and am very familiar with MarkVision and our connectivity products.

MarkVision is a key part of our Total Cost of Printing / Ownership message (a message that was invented by Lexmark & HP is just now picking up on). MarkVision uses NPAP (Network Printing Alliance Protocol, an IEEE standard) as its printer management foundation. MarkVision / NPAP has certain inherent advantages over SNMP based printer management applications, like HP JetAdmin, because the protocol was created specifically for printer management (SNMP is more broad based) and it is more efficient when reporting printer status (NPAP printer alerts are generated asynchronously vs. you must poll to get printer status with SNMP). We have many customers who rely on MarkVision to manage their printing environment which may encompass hundreds, sometimes even thousands of printers.

Our latest connectivity products include the MarkNet S, an internal network card for the Optra S / Optra SC line of mono / color lasers, and the MarkNet Pro series of external adapters. Both of these products came out just this year and blow JetDirect products away in terms of performance. You could hook an HP LJ 5Si up to a MarkNet Pro parallel port and achieve better performance than if you went with HP's own internal MIO-based JetDirect card.

From an organizational perspective the company is pretty much broken up into two divisions: the Business Printer Division (laser printers & related supplies) and the Consumer Printer Division (inkjet printers & related supplies).

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Chad
