Taiwan stocks rally 2.83 pct as electronics surge

TAIPEI, Nov 3 (Reuters) - Taiwan share prices rose sharply in early trade on Monday on the strength of a dramatic rally by the trend-setting electronics sector, which had tumbled more than 50 percent since late August.

At 0150 GMT, weighted index up 2.83 percent/206.61 points at 7,520.01. Turnover very strong at T$48 billion. Electronics, which had lost more than 50 percent since late August, soar 5.77 percent to pace Monday's rise. In same period since seven-year peak on August 26, overall index had fallen about 28 percent. Oliver Fang, senior analyst, National Securities: ''Investors widely believe that electronics, which have relatively sound fundamentals, have been oversold.''

Fang: ''You see very strong bargain-hunting today.''

Top blue chip Taiwan Semiconductor (2330.TW) back above T$100, rising daily seven percent limit or T$6.50 to T$104.50. Rival United Microelectronics (2303.TW) up T$3 to T$65. Crashes by Hong Kong and Wall Street had triggered global stock shock in past 10 days. Both recovered moderately on Friday. Taiwan's market was closed on Friday and Saturday for national holidays.
