Detroit's fortunes have been directly tied to the auto industry since Ford built the Model T.

Yes, because the auto business was already heavily there, while the state and local governments (and also the unions) created a poor climate for attracting new business.

Once again, it was nearly impossible to attract new industry because of the stranglehold the auto company had on the state. And btw that stranglehold was done by design. There was a time in this country where industry actively went about exerting complete control over a city or a state in order to get favorable taxation and land deals.

Not that even the best climate, would have kept Detroit from experiencing somewhat hard times. When your main industry is collapsing, it takes time for something new to take up the slack, but things are far worse because of the policies, and the frequent incompetence, of the governments.

The auto industry and gov't were in cahoots. Both were equally to blame.

A crime has been committed in Detroit and the perp is capitalism.

Utter nonsense, without capitalism, Detroit (and the rest of the world) would be in a much worse position than it is now (if it existed at all).

Stop defending the indefensible. I get tired of posting with you because you are like automaton......an ideological automaton. There is no form of capitalism you do not like. The possibility that capitalism may be flawed never enters your paradigm. Its so ridiculous that anyone could be so rigid, and yet you don't see it....at all. Wake up, Tim. This country has real problems a good portion of which result from out of control capitalism and people like you are enabling.
