Edit - Or if it is, its not an extension by the Stupak Amendment. It doesn't dump anyone in to the public plans, it just keeps the same principles in place for public money as existed before.

I just posted something about states using funds authorized by this bill for their own single payer systems. So those could not include abortion coverage. That, too, would be an extension.

If funds authorized by this bill, means federal funds (and I think it is), than it isn't an extension. Its just maintaining the idea of no federal funds for abortion. (Not really no funds, their are relatively narrow exceptions, but I think the exceptions would be retained).

Seems to me that the simplest way to implement the spirit of the Hyde amendment would be for women who want abortion coverage to have to pay that portion of the cost out of pocket.

By "that portion" do you mean 100% of the cost of the abortion?

If so, then that would seem to be another way to say the plans don't cover abortion, which would seem to be pretty much the same as segregating the plans.

If not, then you are getting federal funding of abortion.
