The dichotomy between state and individual will never be resolved finally, once and for all, in favor of one or the other.
We need the state to protect the rights of the individual from force and fraud. Nothing more, nothing less.
The state exists as a service agreed to by individuals, and paid for by individuals, some willingly, some under protest or even by force but not legitimately by fraud (bizarre, but true). We all argue about what we are paying for, and who pays, and so forth, and so on, and probably always will.
I don't believe there will ever come a time when the state is not needed for those necessities, but regardless, not in my lifetime.
We can and will argue about the fine points forever.
Merry Christmas, Mq, and all the rest of you. |
