I think you've lost track of what was being discussed. Perhaps, you've become mired down in my verbosity.

I'm simply saying that you cannot flatly deny valve replacements to someone based on their age. It makes no sense, whatsoever. Which was what you apparently were advocating.

OTOH, you can't have a team of government bureaucrats carefully evaluating all the facts and circumstances. Because they will kill people who could have lived productive, quality lives for years to come.

So, in reality the only alternative you're left with is for physicians to carefully evaluate whether a procedure should be performed taking into account all the information that is available. Which no government bureaucrat can reasonably be expected to do.
