In fact, Brazil became energy independent primarily because it developed its ethanol industry and encouraged the development of cars that run on both types of fuel.

As I [correctly] pointed out 80% of Brazil's fuel comes from drilling -- and the discovery of some massive offshore oilfields is THE SOLE REASON they are energy independent today.

Actually its 40% which has a huge impact on oil demand.

Actually, it is 20% as I said. From your link:

but it has replaced about 40 percent of the country's gasoline consumption, according to Caio Carvalhal, an analyst with Cambridge Energy Research Associates in Rio de Janeiro.

It says "gasoline", and the correct figure is 48%. But this excludes diesel, and when diesel is figured in, about 20% of Brazil's fuel comes from sources other than oil.

As I said in the first place. Brazil's oil independence is a direct result of offshore drilling. Which, as I recall, you oppose the US doing more of.

If you don't understand a subject, you should avoid it.
