Uh, US consumption was just as flat (probably more so) over the same period of time.

indexmundi.com;

But we were barely growing. Brazil is experiencing hypergrowth.

>> Think biofuel.

While it is true that biofuel DID play a role, the reality is that Brazil's problem was solved by drilling offshore. Period, end of story.

LOL. They just got there faster. It would have happened anyways.

> .so Brazil's oil bonanza is a relatively recent event.

Nevertheless, it was a bonanza.

You're dead wrong in your argument here. Brazil's energy independence is a result of drilling & development and without it they would NOT have become energy independent.

Their baseline requirements are nowhere near what ours are. If you consumed our entire sugar and corn crops with biofuels you couldn't reach the 20% level they are at.

Ethanol fuel is not the only alternative fuel available. The US is a natural for windpower......there were windfarms in CA as early as the early 90s but we didn't get serious about windpower until the last 5 years. We lag the rest of western world in solar power consumption. We have some of the lowest cafe standards of a major industrial power.......and we refuse to tax gas like it should be taxed so you all can drive your hogs.

The US is not Brazil............instead, its becoming an also ran country because of attitudes like yours.

It just really isn't a very valid comparision

That's right.......the US can't keep up with countries like Brazil.....or China....or Spain......or Germany.
