[PETN]is a very powerful high explosive. A tiny bit of it provides the main charge in many blasting caps. It is also the explosive used in detonating cord.
It is rated the most unstable and most easily detonated of the explosives our military uses. Properly applied, heat is sufficient to cause a detonation.


uw, can you understand from the reports how the underware bomber was trying to detonate the charge, and why he failed? It seems from what I can make out that if it had gone off as planned, the plane would have blown up before anybody had a chance to react.
