GM liquidation assets are fairly valuable; most of the expenses were paid by local governments. So no reason for GM to sell opal. Saab in Sweden is the same, 3000 jobs on the line. Swedish government will be paying to keep the plant going.

It was never clear, what the US government bought, except the asset changed ownership and kept away from creditors. The volt project that the government bought will turn out to be worthless, because the battery problem is huge with too many cells that can go bad.

Other brands except GMC sold well in framingham area. It was sudden that a lot of GM new cars started to appear in traffic. So sales will be good, if GM is not trying for government subsidy.

How it will turn out is everyone's guess. But if you need tax loss(GM reported very large loss per share per year) hold on to the old GM stock to be reported to IRS. Or maybe someday sold back to GM for them to use the tax loss carry over.

What might happens is that GM gets back 30% market share. Looks good in Framingham right now. Stop losses on volt. Sell cars like opal, saab, and gmc in china, Russia and EU for better profits. Daewoo in skorea and nkorea. There are many other brands in Australia, etc. around the world. It may only take a few years to pay back US government($67 billion), which is only a small part of sales for a 20/30% market share per year in the US.
