wasn't created by airlines. It was created by consumers / travellers who want to get from point A to FAR away point B for as little money as possible. Not many years ago a trans continental flight for $1,000 was considered cheap. Now nothing more than $500 will do it. No wonder air planes have become cattle cars as operating costs have gone up and fairs have come down.
