I look the 50 day moving average. Once the moving average goes south, I evaluate the company. Also I look at the fundamentals of the company and make my decisions on "my opinion of the company". I have been both right and wrong. I decided in 1995 that SGI was head for a cross road and dump everything in 1995, just before the earnings report. I've gone back in once since then, before the most recent quarter (can't recall which one, a couple quarters ago. I purchased short term options a week before the positive earnings. I own Intel and have had pretty good returns, but made a big mistake before the most recent earnings report. Now I'm sitting negative on that call and may be getting out of Intel soon. Intel is different, it owns most of it's market. SGI is struggling and must prove to the street that it could return the growth of the past.
