The answer, circa 1980, was "no". Unless it's been described since, hookworm larvae develop during an obligate stage in poop's environment.

One cool thing about being a grad student in a medical school, you get to fool with mushrooms and worms. Almost became a parasitologist..... there are strange, strange creatures among us.
