Hawk, what we (the U.S.) wants does matter. We are spending billions of dollars on Israel and we want peace in the Middle East. It matters an awful lot since we have pledged to defend Israel from attack, our blood and treasure are on the line for Israel. The very least it should do is try to comply with international law, it's an embarrassment for the US to have its ally thumbing its nose at the world and the US. Israel places the US in an awkward position among other nations. If Israel wants to assert such independence and defiance against the US, it should stop taking our money and try doing things for itself without relying on the American dole.
