Aircraft - yep - that's what I get for over generalizing big error on my part. The Airbus is still in the game but clearly not the leader.

Energy systems - Europe has us beat in nuclear and everyone can and does build dams and power plants.

Communications - Cienna is a classic example - their 4x multiplexer product was supplanted by Alcatel's and Perelli's 16x product. Of course the race is not over and Lucent is clearly entering the race. I'd call this one neck and neck.

New materials - Everyone is into new materials like nano-tech, I don't think that there is any clear winner here.

I was thinking in terms of the really big industries that make really huge amounts of money like cars, textiles, consumer electronics, steel, ship building, manufacturing ... Of course with the over capacity this could all change - and I did leave out airplanes.
