Thanks to all for your advice. I've decided to open the bottle before going out and drink it at home with neighbors. (No worries...I've rented a car for the night.) That way if it's past its prime I can grab something else or order at the restaurant.

BTW, the tag is still on the bottle. I paid 17.00 in 1986 or 1987, so it still qualifies for the message board. :)
