Man involved in fight on plane gets 30 days in jail

MONTREAL — A 31-year-old man has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for fighting with a fellow passenger on an Air Canada jet that was forced to cut short a flight to Germany and land in Montreal.

Montreal police spokesman Daniel Lacoursiere said that Khodr Ahmad was sentenced in Montreal court Thursday after pleading guilty to a charge of disturbing the peace.

Flight AC872 departed Toronto for Frankfurt, Germany at around 6 p.m. Wednesday. The flight was forced to land in Montreal after the fight erupted. Ahmad was then kicked off the airplane.

After his ejection, Ahmad proceeded to an Air Canada kiosk at the airport and began "shouting," according to police.

Ahmad's sentencing comes amid a worldwide increase in airport security in the wake of an abortive attempt by a Nigerian engineering student to blow up a flight from Amsterdam as it was about to land in Detroit on Dec. 25.
