Oil is One Of A Kind

Why is Oil One Of A Kind?

1. It is energy dense, much more so than other energy sources. That means you get much more energy bang for your buck for any unit of volume or unit of weight.

2. It is easy to transport because it is a liquid at room temperature. Try filling your car up with coal or transporting natural gas across oceans. You have big problems.

3. But most importantly to an industrialized world economy, conventional oil is able to scale up to HUGE quantities. The world consumes 1,000 barrels of oil every second or 42,000 gallons of liquid fuels derived from oil every second. Step back and think what that means. What other fuel is as energy dense, easy to transport and can be scaled up to 85 million barrels per day? There is none. Oil offers Energy Instant Gratification.

It takes a while for people who are new to Peak Oil to really understand the unique properties of oil and how they are irreplaceable to a world economy that consumes 85 million barrels of oil every day.

One final comment: don't expect the oil industry or those connected to it to acknowledge Peak Oil. That would be like Count Dracula quitting necrophilia.
