All good ideas, BUT..... that's the problem with Entitlements. The Government promised low income families MEGA benefits, like free Medical for children, free school lunches, in some cases, breakfasts too, food stamps, and heaven knows what else. When was the last time ANY Of these things have been cut or taken away completely??????
I submit NEVER!
So why should Seniors who have actually paid into the system for 40+ years, be penalized?????
Most of the Seniors today have actually paid into Medicare since the mid 1960's, and now, because the Government has the program, there aren't any other Senior Medical Insurance programs available in most states.
The problem is over the years, with the House and Senate with Democrat majorities (except for the 6 years of Repub majorities) that vote getting was the name of the game. SO, they added all sorts of numbers of people into the program, that paid no money into the system at all....immigrants, children of parents who died before the kids were 18, etc etc)
Plus until the 1980's the US Government workers weren't into the program, and the City and State workers weren't either, depending on the organization.
I don't know what the current "Promises" (usually cost of living increases) for Medicare were supposed to be until about 2030 nor do I know what those numbers look like, and how they effect the SS deficit. |
