Maybe I'm not reading your post correctly.

I took care of my folks for 4 years: my dad with Parkinson's and bedridden for the last 2 years of his life, my mom with Alzheimer's, who needed constant attention.

My dad fortunately set up their lives so that they could stay at home. All I had to do was find 24/7 care for them, which I was fortunate enough to have done.

Medicare doesn't provide for the the in-home type of the couple I found to take care of them, but his SS and pension covered the costs. But there were tons of doctor office visits and hospital stays. Medicare and the supplement took care of all of the medical costs, including the drugs my dad had to take for Parkinson's.

The whole ordeal was a nightmare because there were daily problems. Neither one of my folks would have wanted to live in the circumstances they ended up in - my dad, an active brilliant man confined to bed unable to communicate and my mom, a fun-loving person who didn't know where she was or who the people around her were. But at least they were in their own homes, their own beds.

But there were never medical bills I couldn't take care of (except the doctors who were claiming house visits who had never been to the house).

Of course, this was 13 years ago.

I'm on Medicare and have had to visit a couple of doctors lately because of the problems I have with my ears - an on-going problem. I've never been asked to pay more than what Medicare covers.

The only bill I ever receive is from my dentist - for the full amount because I don't have any dental coverage.

Maybe there are procedures that aren't covered by Medicare or won't be in the future.

I'm trying to keep up with all this but it gets confusing at times - I suspect I'm not the only one.
