You may be right, but I'm not so despairing as you. There is a huge groundswell of opposition. Real popular movements are rare and powerful, and the teaparty movement is both real and powerful.

I think it likely that the Dems will lose at least one house of Congress no matter what story they tell. Still, you are right in this much: not all the damage can be undone. But if anything can be undone, it's healthcare, as happened in Massachusetts a few years ago. The consequences are too immediate and too catastrophic (which means, to sitting members' careers) to ignore.
