well....
let's call it....
"lost in translation"
because i do not see anything in our exchange that i disagree strongly with, other than somewhere in the words better, longer, aging, and environment... we are getting lost... and you and i find some differences in these words.
but thanks you for the exchange because it pushed me to open books that i had not open in a few years....
anyway... on with the wine tasting.... -g
tonight i am trying another Australian...
this time around is a:
Lindeman Shiraz Bin 50 2007 Southeastern Australia
price was $ 7.99
ok...
for the price... this is a very good wine... (well, the better description is superb value.)
great "every day table wine" a little on the heavy for 'every day' but again... the value is superb.
yes, on the heavy side... but somehow lacking on the 'full body' i think this is due to alcohol content (13.5%) and the grape (shiraz) but somehow... after the initial impression... it thins out... it does not fill your mouth like those incredible reds that deserve the 'full body' description.
i am drinking this with hot italian sausage, (remember, i am a firm believer that the best companion for a shiraz is lightly spicy food)... it is like a pairing of peers. :) (so long the 'spicy' side will not overwhelm the wine (which it very easily can) so one must be judicious as to the level of the 'spicy. i also had some left over buffalo osso buco (yes, from my chef friend kitchen)
flavor of the wine: spicy (pepper) and cherry... (the label says i should be tasting plum)... but i just don't quite pick that.... maybe very faint...
anyway.... as the bottle has been open... welll... it is not getting considerably better.... so i do not know much about Lindeman... other than what it says on the label... founded by a doctor in 1843... so they have been around fora while.... i would say... it is an Australian Mondavi.... they do produce quality wines... and probably they have one or two unique wines... they produce good quality basic wine... and again, for the price, very reasonable.
hmm..... finally... after... 20 minutes or so... i can pick up the plum....
i have to believe this is great value... specially if i want to see as red wine as a source of healthy things

i am not a health nazi... nor any sort of nazi.... [except for the things i like -vbg] so use judgment in reading the stuff in the link....
i am now into cheese, (brie), sun dried tomato bruchetta (using sesame seed flat bread), and nuts (pecans)... the wine is going flat... (that is the reason of the $7.-/bottle :)
the pecans seem to help the wine... but you can no longer taste the intensity of the fruit as vibrant as before... so... for $ 7.00 cannot complain... and actually very enjoyable...
this is the perfect example you need to share the wine and that 3/4 liter bottle size is not the ideal....
translation: tomorrow the roughly 1/3 of wine left will be a sorry memory of today... and the perfect bottle size is about 1 litter to 1.25 liter... (for a couple) |
